If a Christmas countdown has yet to grace your Facebook feed, it will soon. Trust me. And with it, the pressures that come with planning and shopping for the perfect gifts for all the lovely people in your life.
This year, I’m committing to these two things:
- Giving and receiving without guilt. Are you giving beyond your means? You don’t have to. Giving and receiving is about the exchange. It’s about showing someone that you love and care for them, that they mean something to you. It’s about the opportunity to bless others with what you DO have and about having a thankful and gracious heart on the receiving end (not one of entitlement and expectation). Are you promoting “unexpected” giving? Don’t let the fear of falling short of expectations steal your joy, and don’t set yourself up to meet the same fate of disappointment. Are you just giving out of obligation? Take a minute to refocus, find perspective, and channel a spirit of generosity. Tis the season to not give gifts solely for the sake of giving gifts.
- Shopping locally. When you shop locally, it literally is the gift that keeps on giving. If you run a business, you fully understand the value of the #shoplocal movement. For everyone else, you’re indirectly supporting local charities, education programs, athletic teams, etc. when you support your local shop owners. You are also pouring the money you spend back into the local economy. And if you happen to be friends with said business owner/ shop employee, you’re supporting relationships, which is priceless, and most likely individuals that share the same heart as you. For those in the Lake Charles area, I’ll be featuring some gift ideas and tagging where to find them in future posts!
